Earlier this spring, Riggs Distributing hosted an intimate event bringing together a curated group of influencers from the design, culinary, and cultural communities at the Sub-Zero, Wolf, and Cove Showroom in the San Francisco Design Center.

Featuring Melissa King, an award-winning chef, author, curator, and television personality, the evening celebrated San Francisco’s dynamic food culture and Riggs Distributing's commitment to creating meaningful experiences.

“While it is a showroom, it's actually so much more than that,” says Eric Remmen, Director of Showrooms and Trade for Riggs. “It is really a gathering place for the architect and design community and for consumers. I like to call it an experience center because it is an amazing space in a bright historic building, in which to encounter and interact with our brands.”

Invited guests were treated to a culinary conversation between Chef King and Editor-in-Chief Michael McCarthy of San Francisco magazine, the event’s co-host. The thoughtful dialogue touched on King’s influence on the Bay Area dining world and the cultural impact of her cuisine. Small bites influenced by King were served throughout the event.
“All the food was inspired by her cookbook, Cook Like a King, which she signed for everyone here at the event,” says Remmen. Menu items included sesame shrimp toasts, Asian-inspired prawn cocktails, flatbread pizzas with duck confit and hoisin sauce, miniature potato pancakes with Asian pear compote, and almond cookies. “Everything was in true Melissa King style: delicious and beautiful to behold,” he says.

Clos du Val vineyard generously provided the California red and white wines that complemented the nibbles. “We also had lots of bubbly,” adds Remmen, “which was a perfect accompaniment to Chef King’s amazing food.” Remmen also offers special thanks to the showroom culinary team, headed by Chef Chris Harding, for preparing all of the dishes.

“It was ideal that this event occurred in close conjunction with the Lunar New Year,” says Remmen, noting that this joyful multicultural celebration is important to the people and fabric of San Francisco. “There was a wonderful feeling in the air that we were nodding to that occasion, since Chef King has Shanghainese-Cantonese heritage.”

“Thanks to the Riggs marketing team’s excellent planning,” says Remmen, “it was really a terrific evening.”
